There is mixed evidence as to whether intake of omega-3 supplements can help prevent strokes. Omega-3 prevents plaque build-up inside blood vessels and has anti-clotting effects, so it could help prevent stroke caused by clots or a blocked artery. At high doses, omega-3 supplements might raise the risk of the less common type of stroke that involves bleeding in the brain.
